Four day chamber music summer school

This course is centred on chamber music coaching. Each participant is assigned to a chamber group based on ability and experience. In addition to chamber music coaching, everyone is involved in a chamber orchestra and there is individual coaching on chamber music parts. The course incorporates a public concert given by the tutors; The Regency Ensemble on the Wednesday evening and closes with a participants’ concert on the Friday evening.

Information

Applicants

  • This course caters primarily for bowed string instruments with a few spaces available for wind, brass and piano.
  • Participants should be at least 18 years old and are expected to have reached Grade 8 standard or above.
  • We welcome applications from individuals or pre-formed groups.
  • Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis; please apply early to avoid disappointment.
  • This is a non-residential course but we can provide a list of digs (friends of Regency Chamber Music offering inexpensive B&B in Brighton)

Repertoire

  • Music will be allocated by the end of July.
  • As the duration of the course is short, it is essential that participants learn their chamber music parts thoroughly before the first day and are encouraged to listen to recordings to help with the preparation
  • Participants are encouraged to find their own chamber music parts; you should be able to do this through your local library or music shop.
  • If you have problems finding your part, please let me know and I will help.
  • Chamber orchestra parts will be available on the first day of the course.
  • If you have any repertoire preferences, we will do our best to accommodate them.

Fees

  • The course fee is £180, which includes entry to The Regency Ensemble concert on the Wednesday evening.
  • A deposit of £45 is payable on application and will be refunded if we are unable to accommodate you.
  • The balance is due by Saturday 8th August 2009.
  • If you would prefer to pay in four instalments, please specify this on your form.

Location

  • The course takes place at the Friends' Meeting House, Ship Street, Brighton BN1 1AF (Map).

Concerts

  • Both the Regency Ensemble concert and course concert on the Friday night are public concerts.
  • We ask all of you to help advertise these concerts and encourage friends and family to come to them.
  • Participants are granted free entry to the Regency Ensemble concert.

Other Information

  • Please remember to bring a music stand and a pencil with you to the course.
